It all began one night when I accidentally stumbled upon a random picture of a thin Swiss cheese slice with the light coming behind it.
That moment I visualized in in my mind – SWEEZ – the Swiss cheese lamp. That was first lamp in the current series.
My name is Eitan Rieger. I’m a product designer and an artist. I live and work in Berlin, Germany. Here I design and produce each lamp by hand.
SWEEZ opened my mind for a broad line of lamps (mainly elements of food) to which I give my own interpretations. This plastic lamp (and also the rest of them) has a hidden light source. The light coming from this source in manipulated by a various manufacturing techniques I use when building the lamps. The lamp emit soft warm light which varies according to the color of each lamp.
Next came WELON – an iconic slice of a watermelon. In this lamp I made the seeds emit light, unlike in reality where they are dark.
KADO was the next lamps. Kado is an humanised avocado lamp in which the kernel protrudes from the lamp. This was the first lamp in which I left the 2D realm and added it a 3rd dimension.
PEPI is a lamp which is not a fruit. It is a standing pizza slice with champignons and pepperoni slices. In this lamp, I gave lots of thought to the crust and how it diffuses the light.
BLOOZ was sort of a word game for me. It is an exact copy of SWEEZ but unlike the first one, this lamp is blue – blue cheese. Both BLOOZ and SWEEZ come in three different sizes.
SBARRY – a strawberry lamp is more loyal to the original shape of the fruit. It’s little seeds emit light and creating a nice glow around them on the red surface. Sbarry lamps come in 2 different sizes.
