A Dionysian look of the human figure in oil paintings by Christopher Lee Gil

A Dionysian look of the human figure in oil paintings by Christopher Lee Gil.

Christopher Lee Gilmer is a self-taught American – Filipino artist. During his past visits at a several psychiatric facilities, he was inspired to depict the human madness that unfolded around him. Believing Dionysus to reign as the embodiment of freedom, Chris creates a series of paintings that focus on disentangling the infernal beauty of the mind by portraying humans as mythological beings that have embraced the true nature of their uninhibited selves.

Also inspired by data-moshing,  quantum mechanics, and psychology,  Chris creates artwork that explores the psychological effects of the physical mutations of the figure in time as though various realities merge. Using a cubist approach he explores the different outcomes of candid moments as one singular reality. Often blurring the lines between realism and expressionism, sometimes adding primitive line art to the entangling almost parallel poses.
