Afilando Garras (Sharpening Claws)

“Afilando las garras”, its title in Spanish,  is a cat sharpening his claws after the 13th nap just before an afternoon snack.

I like to make up the cat stories when I’m sketching so the painting has a meaning, that anyone who has cats can identify. Media used is acrylic paintings on canvas

Born in Caracas, Venezuela. In 1982 I moved to Florida, United States where I lived for almost 10 years. I went to Palm Beach Jr College (Art Degree) and then went to The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale (Degree in Advertising Design), adopted my first cat Nikita, a beautiful black cat who taught me everything about cats and how great and lovable companions they are! Then came back to my home country in 1991 (with my Nikita of course!). I’ve always liked art in all its expressions but painting is where I feel free, without limits, like my cats unlimited… As a cat artist and as part of my social responsability I donate a portion of my proceeds to a local shelter to sterilize stray cats. We help ourselves helping others.
