Ashot Hovhannisyan

1929 – born in s.Maisyan (Armenia).
1943-1947 – studied at the Art School im.S.Merkurova (Leninakan).
1948-1950 – he studied at the Art School (Yerevan).
1951 – he was drafted into the Soviet army for military service.
1955 – went to Leningrad.
1957-1964 – he studied at the Leningrad Academy of Arts, in Yu.Neprintseva.
1965-1967 – taught drawing in the Leninakan school N2.
1967 – taught at the Leninakan State Pedagogical Institute. M.NALBANDYAN.
He began participating in national and international group exhibitions.
1968 – taught at Leninakan boarding school.
Since 1969 – he lived in Yerevan.
The creative search for a modern form of artist led to geometric abstraction.
Since 1970 – member of the Union of Artists of Armenia.
1976 – came to commenting on the new free-form, began work on a large canvas “The Annunciation”, “Love”, “Fight”.
1977 – participated in the exhibition “Works by 50 artists of Soviet Armenia”, Paris.
1978 – participated in an exhibition of modern Armenian artists, organized by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon.
1980 – created a series of portraits: “Portrait of Mother”, “Portrait of father”, “Portrait of Minas”, “Portrait of Arshile Gorky,” “Portrait of the daughter,” “Self-Portrait”, “Armenian woman.”
1982 – participated in the exhibition “Armenian painting and graphics”, Budapest.
1984 – participated in the exhibition “Art of Soviet genocide”, Berlin.
1990 – received the title of Honored Artist of Armenia.
1992 – participated in the exhibition of a private collection, London.
1995 – participated in an exhibition in Bochum, Germany.
1996 – for his film “Disaster” was awarded the I prize at the exhibition-contest dedicated to the World Congress, organized by the UN Development Programme.
1997 – died in Yerevan.

Works are in the Museum of Modern Art (Yerevan), NGA, numerous private collections in Armenia and abroad.
