IT’S MY FORM. IT’S MY LIFE.
Through my collage works I explore mass media representation of the commodified female form, from a grounded and moderate feminist perspective. Through deconstruction of glossy magazine images and their subsequent reconstruction, my imagery epitomises the essence of beauty without hyper-sexualization, offering contemporary elegance with an underlying discourse.
In fact, I feel perplexed at the obsessive attitudes that society displays towards physical perfection, perhaps because we are visually bombarded with imagery that is conditioning our subconscious.
To express such concerns, I use the technique of collage because it reiterates the idea of the artifice, hence conveying a narrative of critique towards mass media, as they literally construct the image of women and render it unrealistic in its perfection.
