Ilana Swanepoel is a 25 year old Afrikaans woman from Krugersdorp Gauteng.
In 2012 she completed her BA degree in Graphic Design. She is currently working as a Graphic Designer, but has always had a passion for fine art. Since a young age she was taught to draw, paint and take Photos.
In 2005 she started studying art at High school Monument. In 2006 she started taking private art classes in oil painting from Olga Hoffman. In 2008 she graduated from high school and started her studies in graphic design at North West University Potchefstroom Campus. Here she had Graphic Design, Multi-Media Design, Illustration and Art History as primary subjects. Her education has made her a well rounded artist and designer.
She recently started working on a series of colourful abstract/surrealistic oil paintings. These works are Her inspiration also flows from the Surrealistic artist Salvador Dali (1904- 1989), the Post-Impressionist artists Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) and Paul Gauguin (1884-1903) and the Fauvism artist Henri Matisse (1869-1954). The drawings for the paintings are done while the artist is attempting to access her subconscious by listening to Eastern music and drawing while letting her mind run with the music. The colours are mostly primary, contrasting colours with an impasto technique used on smoother areas creating a vibrant and energetic image.
