This is the latest series I have painted. Inspired by the many moods of the Green Mountains in Vermont, these paintings convey, invoke, and reveal a multitude of emotion.
For me it is important that my artwork provokes emotions, and (though it could be) that it is not just another pretty picture. Some of my work is quite textural, almost 3-D, adding dimension and a sculptural quality to it. I like this element because it encourages the viewer to ‘cross the line’ and touch the piece rather than just stand back and look at it.
I love the human emotion that comes with a painting, whether the subject matter be a landscape, still life,or abstract and I am fascinated by the unbidden influence of the ‘soul’ . How it mutates the literal subject, based on a physical reality, and changes it into a unique interpretation.
I want people to feel, and feel deeply. If my paintings can stimulate that response then I am satisfied that my artwork is a success.
