I sculpt, and my sculptures are my actors | Ivar Rødningen.
Ivar Rødningen:I make images based on sculpted characters, miniature models, and photos from a huge collection of images that I´ve shot mainly in the wilderness of my home country, Norway.
I find that my background in puppet animaton and my storytelling skills from that medium are a great help when I build my sceneries, situations and in creating the mood and atmosphere for my image projects. The characters and stories from old Scandiavien folklore imforms much of what I do, and the present broad public interest in fantasy stories, movies and images is heartwarming for someone like myself, who has indulged in this way of regarding the world around me for decades.
My most important inspiration for my work has always been peoples faces and body langage and the Scandinavian wilderness. And my first great invovement with art was with artist like Theodor Kittelsen and John Bauer, along with the Scandinavian art-lyricists of the mid- and late 19th century.
