Industrial Objects Adorned With Delicate Lace Patterns By Cal Lane
“Like a Wrestler in a tutu, the absurdity of having opposing extremist stances is there for reaction and not rational understanding; the rational discussion arises in the search for how one thing defines the other by its proximity,” artist Cal Lane humurously describes her work.
Working in a series of “Industrial Doilies”, she bestows intricate touches of elegance to highly industrial products such as shovels, car parts and oil tanks, using a blowtorch. Concurrently using lace to hide and expose the materials she works with, Lane is able to reveal and cover-up the attributes of choice.
She exhibits her work internationally. All images here courtesy Art Mur.
