Karsten Thormaehlen is a German photographer, editor and artist. As a trained graphic designer,
he has worked as an art- and creative director in New York, Paris, Berlin and Hamburg. His commercial photography is specialized in architecture, portraiture, journalism, corporate and stillife-/product photography.
He says «I’d like to encourage people in reviewing and evince that beauty can be found in almost everything,» he says. In his artistic and sociological work he confronts with old age. His first project was the Centenarians (2008). The second book on the series, entitled Happy at Hundred,was published in 2011 by Kehrer, Heidelberg. The installation, featuring portraits and quotes from centenarians, has now been travelling across Germany, Austria and Switzerland for over eight years.
