We are Irina and Silviu Szekely. Born in communist Romania,
we are a duo of self-taught collage & photomontage artists with a strong background in contemporary philosophy and critical theories, producing paradoxical and plurivocal juxtapositions and reconstructions of displaced and insignificant fragments of reality. Everything we produce is made by hand using scissors and glue.
Working free of meaning and convention, we are nothing more than existential practitioners guided by vague metaphysical instincts. Using found images and treating the printed paper as a readymade, we are skilfully fusing painting and photography, past and present, in order to create tales of displacement and belonging.
