“Lost & Found”, over 4 years in the making, is a large (12x12x12′) viewer participatory installation .
The installation explores the sensation of discovering the things we lost but didn’t know we possessed till we lost them…finding and losing elements of our lives simultaneously.
The work consists of an elaborate room that can only be viewed through an open picture frame attached to a wall. The viewer peers inside the frame and through the wall to gaze upon the room inside. By utilizing a hidden camera, the viewer’s face is projected on a child figure leering back at them through a partially ajar door (see photos). Using both literal and abstract imagery, a narrative of the passage of time unfolds within the walls of the room. Integral components include… the projection, kinetic butterflies, black ink flowing from a spigot, a back lit sky, hundreds of caterpillars, and an original ethereal soundtrack by Michael Tanner (Plinth) of music boxes and calliopes.
