Margherita Introna: Heals heartbreak and celebrates joy through conceptual fine art portraiture.
I am a fine art photographer from Cape Town, South Africa. I specialize in conceptual fine art portraiture with a surreal and whimsical twist.
Most of my portfolio is self-portraiture as in most instances my work is autobiographical in nature. Much of my inspiration comes from my emotions and so self-portraiture is the way in which I honour those emotions.
I began self-portraiture purely as it was practical and convenient. But I soon found self-portraiture to be a genre in its own right. It gave me so much in return. I found my means of expression. A way to heal the heartbreak and a way to celebrate the joy.
I also photograph models – although typically these are just my close friends. I think each of my friends has magical and mystical character hidden inside, and it is these character’s stories I love to create with them.
By creating images in a world from a different and older time, one far more whimsical and fairytale than our own, the emotions conveyed are easier to bear. A dream world where those dreams become tangible. I create my images by taking several of my own photographs and blend them together using Photoshop. I then add texture and magic.
