Dana Marie Borbely is a Canadian self portrait photographer who uses a tripod and 20 second timer to execute her photographs.
Each image has a new story or character that Dana makes up herself based on her own experiences or beliefs. A lot of her work expresses her hardship with anxiety and depression as well as her belief that not all art is beautiful and uplifting. Her main focus is to create something with purpose and something that communicates with her viewers.
Dana refuses to use a lot of photoshop in her work. She believes photography should be mostly straight out of the camera instead of straight out of photoshop. She works hard to get the picture right the first time in camera, even if it means re-doing the whole photoshoot.
Dana has been doing photography for about 10 years now. She started out with landscape photography working with simple cheap disposable cameras. Dana picked up her first DSLR which was a Sony A300 when she first started doing portraits. Eventually, since Dana is not much of a people person, working with models put too much anxiety on her and she decided to use herself as a model instead; she felt more comfortable working alone. She currently uses a Nikon D7000 and 4 types of lenses.
Other interests that Dana has is; music (Cult of Luna, Draconian, Agalloch, Opeth..), Video Games (The Witcher, Dota, Dragon Age…), Anime (Deathnote, Full Metal Alchemist), animals, nature and procrastinating on youtube.
