Self-portrait in painting | Ako Kamal.
In my work of self-portraits in painting, I imply the notion of self-image, which can be multiple that is constructed to make its unique psychological identity linked to a singular character of the individual through his physical. It may be linked to our perception of one’s own body. But also it is linked to self-esteem, the way one judges oneself. For me, the self-portrait contains several psychological notions, even psychoanalytic, such as image and self-esteem, factors that do not have a priori any inking in the real. These are mental constructs. It reflects the “idea” one has of oneself, so it is not an art of observation, externalized, such as dead nature for example, but of interpretation, of interiority.
