Surreal Fashion | Miss Aniela.
Surreal Fashion is where fashion meets fine art, and beauty meets absurdity. Dreamy characters bask in opulent worlds from the sublime to the bizarre: zoo animals peer from chateaus, a yellow tulle dress explodes into canaries, and painted ships dance upon the ‘waves’ of a model’s cascading skirts.
In the series, artist Miss Aniela (Natalie Dybisz) blurs boundaries between fine art, fashion and commercial styles. Surreal Fashion is also a direct fusion of contemporary photography with classical reference – many of the images notably feature elements from classical paintings including Adriaen van Utrecht, Melchior d’Hondecoeter and Jean-Baptiste Greuze, strategically combining modern with old, and birthing a new creation from paintstroke to pixel. The result is a visual feast crossing centuries of art history.
Surreal Fashion has been exhibited by the Saatchi Gallery, Waldermarsudde Museum Stockholm and Photo Vogue at Corso Como in Milan; and in numerous media including Plastik Magazine, Yahoo, Nikon Pro, and Elle Thailand. Miss Aniela has been working on the collection for over 6 years, shooting extensively with production teams on location worldwide – from French chateaus to LA mansions, to classic English manor houses and kitsch prophouses.

‘GLACIAL GATE’ …new surreal image from #BaroccoHouse. It was a precious task for me to create an image with this staircase, before we left this mansion which was our home for 5 months this year in Devon. We spent a great time on the prep for this and I wanted the Photoshop surrealism of the ice lagoon to not overtake the beauty of the scene that was set up for real: haze, height, fabric, and taxidermy piece we bought especially. I then fused the interior with an Icelandic landscape to become a #SurrealFashion new world… ❄☂ Model Annabelle Loveluck / HMUA Grace Gray / Corset (adapted) originally by Fairytas / Production and photography Miss Aniela
