Carpathians, Ukraine, 2009.Regardless their natural beauty horses have been always trivial visual objects to me.
The series “Horses” presents a personal, subjective view on usual Carpathian horses.
These compositions corresponded to my mood and emotions during the shooting.
I saw and showed them like these.
I was lying on the grass in a small Carpathian village. While inhaling the herbs and enjoying the sun I heard a rustling nearby. I open my eyes and I saw a strange creature. It was a usual horse but the aspect in which I saw it was unnatural and different than the one in which we usually see horses. This image followed me all the day long and I decided to make a series embedding horses into the Carpathian landscape in strange aspects. I got so excited that I spent all the time of my visit lying/crawling on the ground under the horse hooves. Meanwhile my girlfriend was bored and probably was thinking “What an idiot. How could you crawl on the ground senselessly for five hours? He just ruined our trip”. However, later she became my wife and I guess that was her compensation for the bizarre vacation that I spent with the horses and not with her. The result of that impulsive experiment has become the series with the simple name “Horses”.
