The surrealist art of Alex Ghizea Ciobanu.
Alexander Ghizea-Ciobanu is a contemporary surrealist painter. He was born in 1988 in Dubasari (Moldova) and graduated from the Cahul Children’s Art School, where he later taught for three years. At the same time, he was engaged in self-study exploring the works of the old masters and the main schools of painting. During self-education and teaching the young artist he realized that this was not enough and decided to get academic education in the painting class. He tried to find his way and focused on European art in Venice, Italy. In 2016 he graduated from the Venice Academy of Arts with a degree in Painting – Restoration. Currently, he lives and works in Venice.
Alexander does theatrical art: crafts, handmade of the Venetian masks, stage decorations to one of the most significant annual events of the Carnival of Venice – Casanova Grand Ball (2017-2018).
The artist explores alternative views on familiar objects and phenomena, raises sharp social issues, and sets the mood in his works: “My oeuvre is based on three main keys: contrast. humor and allegory. I like to paint things I like most of all. And I do it in a non-standard way – I play with colors, textures, and objects. The most popular elements in my works are food (food for our bodies), music (food for our souls), animals (a symbol of nature and purity) and women (love). My goal is to create mood combining incompatible things, phenomena and ideas. I am pleased to observe the smiling faces of the viewers who come to see my works. My second goal is to raise values. There are some specific themes in my works: transparency, fidelity, tender attitude towards nature, kids, animals, admiration of beauty, books and music. All these components form a healthy lifestyle and the joy of life. I chose surrealism to expand my opportunities and to combine the figurative technique and unexpected symbolism in detail and elements of composition. Such an approach helps me avoid banal plots.”.
Recently, in May-June 2019, he had his personal exhibition in Venice. Several of his works are presented at the collective International Art Exhibition 2019 which is held simultaneously with the Venice Biennale and will last till November 30, 2019.
Oil on Canvas90 x 120 cmEveryone carries their luggage: what is it – it depends on each of us. Oil on canvas80 x 80 cmMeditation on the theme of swan song and eternity through the prism of maths. Oil on canvas80 x 60 cmThere is always time for a fairy tale. Oil on canvas,80 x 80 cmBee population on Earth is rapidly declining and it is a wake-up call to the future of humanity because bees are little gears that make the engine of nature work. Thanks to bee pollination we have healthy and varied food. Obviously, their disappearance is a catastrophe for humanity. Our Earth without bees is a dead planet. Oil on canvas80 x 60 cmA good morning Oil on canvas100 x 70 cmReflection on the beginning of the world: our earth (represented by a sailing ship) floats on spaghetti that conventionally forms a turtle and an egg, as a symbol of beginning, light, and heat. Oil on canvas80 x 80 cmWe are a product of what we eat. Reflection on the value of time spent on information flow, especially with regard to social networks, series and books read. Oil on canvas80 x 80 cmThe world of work is increasingly introducing the use of robotics and automation. Fortunately, there is a gift that distinguishes man from the machine: creativity. This work, ironically, represents the union of these two realities: the popcorn that represents the creative idea, implanted in the brain of a cyborg dressed in a cold dress of spoons, which symbolizes the collection, systematization, and processing of information. Oil on canvas70 x 100 cmThe heat of August and the music of Klingande – “Jubel” suggested this subject to me.
