watercolour painting by Jill Griffin.
I’m Jill Griffin, an artist living and working in South Devon of England.
I truly believe in my work: I am passionate about it and almost always totally in love with whatever I am working on and I think that’s really important- it keeps things fresh and alive!
I have been painting and drawing for as long as I have been able to make marks, working primarily in watercolour, which I adore. I love its unpredictable nature the translucent quality of this medium, and often use pen to capture the essence of a character.
I have a dynamic and contemporary style not normally associated with watercolour and I am inspired by the natural world: from the changing seasons to curious farmyard faces.
My paintings are collected worldwide and I am fortunate enough to exhibit my work here in Devon at several local galleries, and I coordinate a group of roving exhibiting artists- Devon Art Pop
I also tutor students- sharing my love for watercolour, and that is actually the most rewarding part of my job.
I am very happy to take commissions, please get in touch if you would like to discuss one.
My mantra is ‘share and enjoy’

Release- This painting is a repsonse to everyday and extraordinary stresses on modern life. Exploring themes of captivity and release, the reality of our inner voice compared to what we show on the outside- particularly at times of stress.
I wanted to convey the innermost thoughts in more clarity than those that escape and are released to the world.
Ony we know the true complexity of our inner thoughts and workings. Release shares that.
I am a watercolour artist inspired by the natural world and the great outdoors, and love to hide things in my works.
